dPals.com selects Crisp NetModerator to ensure safe play for users

Crisp Thinking logoCrisp, the UK-based leading online child safety specialist, has completed the integration of its NetModerator technology into children’s virtual world, dPals.com.

dPals is a social network site aimed specifically at children where they can interact with each other using a personalised dPal character that they can design themselves. The site also features a virtual world where the dPals can explore, chat safely, play games and take pictures.

Crisp have worked closely with dPals to introduce stringent safety protocols including the introduction of NetModerator, which ensures the dPals environment remains safe and constantly-monitored through its comprehensive next-generation monitoring, analysing and reporting technology.

Mal Ogg, Managing Director of dPals.com, said: “We recognise that safety is a key consideration when children are in the dPals world. To ensure children are safe we have integrated Crisp NetModerator into our full-time moderation processes.  Working with Crisp demonstrates our proactive attitude to safety and our desire to create an environment that is equally fun and secure.”

Andrew Lintell, Chief Executive of Crisp, said: “Managing increasing numbers of children in a site, whilst providing them opportunities to freely communicate safely is a real challenge for today’s online kids communities.  With the support of NetModerator it is possible to deliver comprehensive and efficient moderation that allows for the identification of inappropriate behaviours that can be acted on effectively and consistently.”

NetModerator is becoming the technology of choice for child-safety conscious operators of virtual worlds, social networks and User-Generated Content (UGC) portals.

With the ability to monitor thousands of interactions simultaneously, NetModerator provides security and peace of mind to children and their parents.  It provides virtual communities and social networks with the increased power needed to efficiently and effectively deal with online bullies and sexual predators.

By assessing and ranking risk, the system alerts moderators whenever the threat level rises and individuals may be in danger.  In urgent cases, moderators can be alerted in real-time and can put an immediate block on the accounts of rule breakers.

NetModerator’s fast and automated examination of online chat content provides a more refined approach than existing keyword-matching techniques. Crisp allows moderators to get an immediate understanding of which users are breaking website rules so that judgements and action can be taken quickly and efficiently.

dPals have also signed up to the Crisp Certified programme, which is the new  benchmark for online child protection.  Crisp Certified helps parents identify virtual communities that are taking the best courses of action to enforce their codes of conducts, including through the use of Crisp technology.

The programme provides parents with invaluable criteria for deciding which online communities to let their children become members of and also enhances the brand image of the member communities.

Andrew added: “Crisp Certified meets the requirements of parents who require a meaningful set of criteria to help them select suitable virtual communities for their children. In addition we are able to give our clients the opportunity to demonstrate they take child protection seriously and are adopting the best available processes and technology to maintain the highest standard of online safety.”
