In its two decades of service, the team has been deployed more than 70 times ? including recent deployments for Hurricanes Sandy in 2012 and Irene in 2011. The NDR team deployed on September 11, 2001, following the New York City World Trade Center disaster ? recovering the services of a destroyed network office and providing emergency communications support for humanitarian efforts.

EMEA is an important region for AT&T. The EMEA NDR facility is located in Europe, where AT&T's EMEA fleet of NDR equipment is housed year-round. The location is geographically important as it acts as the global hub for easy access to AT&T's customers across the world. The new facility is over five times the size of the old one and can hold more than 15 semi-trailers and a host of smaller support vehicles. The central location of the NDR facility in Europe also means that members of the NDR team are based in an accessible time zone for both EMEA and Asia Pacific.

"We are conducting this demonstration in Paris, in part, to help the international community understand NDR's role in restoring communications for an area impacted by a disaster," said Nicolas Lemoine, president, AT&T Global Network Services France. "NDR exercises are a global effort ? they are conducted in the United States and abroad to maintain the readiness of the team and its equipment."

Joining AT&T on the day will be representatives from Telecoms Sans Frontieres, (TSF) the only NGO (Non Government Organisation) in the world that specializes in emergency telecommunications and new technologies. AT&T has supported TSF for over ten years.

"In emergency situations access to reliable telecommunications is critical to the humanitarian response for both emergency responders and victims.  Telecommunication networks are often seriously damaged or destroyed," said Jean-Francois Cazenave, president, Telecoms Sans Frontieres.  "TSF's vital action is rendered possible thanks not only to AT&T's crucial support, but also and above all, thanks to its sensitivity towards the importance of telecommunications in humanitarian relief operations. AT&T has understood TSF's mission to reconnect the hundreds of thousands of people across the globe that have been cut off because of natural and man-made disasters and it is largely thanks to AT&T's awareness and commitment that our operations can be carried out."

About TSF
Telecoms Sans Frontieres is the leading humanitarian NGO specialized in emergency telecommunications. As soon as a disaster or a sudden onset of emergency strikes, TSF deploys telecom specialists from its headquarters or from one of its regional bases in less than 24 hours. TSF teams install Emergency Communication Centers for aid agencies right at the heart of crisis. These centers strengthen aid coordination by providing relief organizations, UN agencies and local authorities with laptops connected to the Internet, phone and fax lines and technical assistance. TSF also offers free calls to families affected by humanitarian crisis. Beyond emergency response, TSF is also involved in development projects using ICT solutions for long-term issues. In all of its projects, TSF makes the most of its ICT knowledge and tools, be it for data collection (via SMS or adaptable input forms), data analysis or data broadcast amongst local populations. Mobile technology is an ideal tool for processing and diffusing various data in order to detect and monitor certain threats which could lead to a potentially serious humanitarian disaster.
