WhyHunger charity to benefit for Facebook Places check-in to Hard Rock

Hard Rock International has announced a special Facebook Deal that to support non-profit organization WhyHunger.

Hard Rock imageThe Deal, which is available to any customer visiting a Hard Rock Café at any of the company?s US branches from now until 31 December 2010, is in support of WhyHunger?s efforts to fight against poverty and hunger around the world.  Each time a Facebook user visits a Hard Rock Café and ?checks-in? via Facebook Places, Hard Rock will donate $1.

Hard Rock?s senior director of digital marketing, Kim Matlock comments, ?We?re always looking for innovative ways to allow more fans to experience the Hard Rock brand and also raise awareness of our philanthropic endeavours.  This special charity deal will make each visit to a Hard Rock Café even more rewarding for fans.?

The official announcement states that Hard Rock?s social media presence is ?on a constant incline? and the brand currently has more than 1.7 million fans on Facebook which it intends to mobilize for the WhyHunger campaign.

It says that the decision to partner with Facebook aligns with its mobile and social media strategy and is a way for the company to raise awareness of its ?commitment to philanthropy.?

Facebook began the roll-out of its Deals platform a month ago.  Some of the Deals in place for launch included:

  • Gap - Giving blue jeans to the first 10,000 customers to claim their deal
  • McDonald's - Giving $1 per customer to the Ronald McDonald House Charities
  • University of California at Berkeley - Letting football fans who check in form the human tunnel through which the players run
  • H&M - Offering 20 percent off

It's not currently available to businesses outside of the US, although the social network has plans to make this available in the coming months.
