NASA astronaut Mike Hopkins (Michael S. Hopkins (Colonel, USAF)) will discuss health, fitness and astronaut training with American athletes and professional sportspeople in a
live Google+ Hangout from 3 p.m. CDT (4 p.m. EDT) today.
Anyone can submit questions to NASA using Twitter
@NASA and
Google+ in advance and during the Hangout using the hashtag
#askNASA. In addition to this, NASA will open a thread on its
Facebook page where questions may be posted before the Hangout begins.
US government agency NASA is responsible for the nation?s space program, aeronautics and aerospace research and was formed on 29 July 1958.
Born in Lebanon, Missouri, USA,
Hopkins grew up on a farm outside Richland, Missouri. He was educated at the School of the Osage High School, Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri, holds a B.S. aerospace engineering from the University of Illinois and a M.S. aerospace engineering from Stanford University.
He was selected in July 2009 as one of 14 members of the 20th NASA astronaut class. He recently graduated from Astronaut Candidate Training, which included scientific and technical briefings, intensive instruction in International Space Station (ISS) systems, Extravehicular Activity (EVA), robotics, physiological training, T-38 flight training, water and wilderness survival training.
He is a keen sportsman sports participating in athletics throughout life, including serving as the team captain for the football team while at the University of Illinois. His recreational interests include hockey, backpacking, snow skiing and running. He also is an avid fan of Cross Fit and weightlifting.

NASA reports that, Hopkins is in the final phase of his mission training appointed as a flight engineer as he and his crewmates (the expedition 37/38 crew) prepare for their launch to the International Space Station (ISS) aboard a Soyuz spacecraft from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on 25 September 2013.
