The fake news scandal in the US elections has highlighted a major threat to media credibility in the social media era. But it has also opened up opportunities to rebuild the public's trust in quality journalism as it is practiced by legacy media organisations.

Rebuilding Trust in News

Publish Asia 2017 will dedicate a plenary session to review what news media can do to reassess their journalism practices, optimize their news verification processes and strengthen their brands.

Subsequently, a breakout session for editors will initiate a debate on the specific challenges that misinformation/disinformation represents in Asia Pacific and will kick start a conversation on the opportunity to create an Asian fact-checking task force.

VR & New Content Formats with the Guardian

Digital technologies are not only challenging the way news publishers distribute and monetise their content. They also offer extraordinary means for telling a story and delivering brand new informative experiences to our readers and users!

A world's reference for its journalism quality and creativity, The Guardian has been in recent months at the forefront of the development of VR, AR, 360-degree videos and other new content formats. Francesca Panetta, Executive Editor, VR and Head of the Guardian's Virtual Reality Team will lead an exclusive in-depth masterclass at Publish Asia.

The Google News Lab and Big Data expert from NRC Media (The Netherlands), Matthijs Van de Peppel, will also offer advanced masterclasses for the benefit of Publish Asia 2017 participants.

During the various conference sessions, top media executives from Asia and all over the world will exchange insights and best practices for answering key challenges such as:

  • How to win with an audience-centric business model?
