8th annual Social Media in the Defence and Military Sector conference, taking place on the
28th and 29th November in London, United Kingdom.
Social media has become an increasingly vital tool for the Armed Forces in the 21st Century, not only to reach out to a wider and younger audience globally for recruitment and information purposes but as a new front in warfare. Serving military and government personnel have access to new platforms and information, leading to an increase in their personal communications but also an increase in information risk management. Social media channels are also heavily sued to promote armed forces? activities abroad and increasing transparency with host societies (a strong part of the ?Hearts and Minds? campaigns).
This event is primarily focused on how the military and defence agencies use social media in their day-to-day activities such as communication, recruitment, and during operations and campaigns. This year will also feature sessions on cyber warfare and using social media platforms for open-source intelligence gathering.
This event is CPD accredited.
This year's conference will enhance understanding of social media usage and increase awareness and engagement between the military and the public.
Building on the 2017 event, the 2018 event promises to delve deeper into the role of cyber warfare and civil-military relations. Hear from experts from government agencies on how they use social media to promote their campaigns and engage directly with the public. Get updates from the platforms themselves and how they engage with the defence and military sector.
