Convicted sex offenders would be barred from using online social network sites used by minors under new legislation proposed by Indiana?s Attorney General Steve Carter. Currently, when handing down sentences to sex offenders, judges can opt to restrict access to social networking sites, but Carter said the legislation would standardize the restriction. If a sex offender were to break the proposed law, it would be a Class D felony, which carries a potential sentence of six months to three years, Carter said. If the sex offender violates the law again, the charge would be elevated to a Class C felony, which carries a 2- to 8-year sentence.
