A day after WatchMouse declared Facebook as the worst of the "
slow and inaccessible" social networking sites (according to their study), Facebook have announced that user profiles will soon be easier to un-clutter and faster to load.
The announcement was made on the
Facebook Development Blog last night after an increased number of complaints from users about the vast amount of applications being added to profiles making the site less easy to use and to navigate.
In the near future,
Facebook will introduce a 'profile clean up tool' that they liken to that of the Window's prompt to remove unused icons from your desktop. Facebook will recommend to users that they keep their Friends Box, the Mini-Feed, Wall, Basic and Personal Information and their most favourite 12 applications. At the end of every profile will be a "Show Extended Profile"
Julie Zhuo of Facebook says, "We believe this change will allow users to interact with all of their applications in a more meaningful way. In addition to allowing the profile page to load faster, this means users will have an easy way to publicly acknowledge their favorite applications. We want platform applications to be a fully integrated piece of Facebook, which is why we don?t want users to feel that these applications have somehow infringed on the simplicity of their Facebook experience."
