The site features internal email, chat and a discussion board, in addition to a virtual keyboard ? which allows people to add characters and accents that are foreign to their keyboards.

Hargrave comments, ?I am convinced social networking is here to stay but it needs to have a point. That?s why I decided to launch a social network site that will help people learn or practise a foreign language so everybody benefits. I couldn?t find the site I was looking for, so I decided to build it.?

VoxSwaps faces stiff competition from long established players such as FriendsAbroad who according to their website have millions of users in over 200 countries ? although they have struggled to monetize their site as yet.  FriendsAbroad won the Yahoo! finds of the year under the education category for 2007.
