Two university students from the United States
announced their plans to launch a new social network for the music industry from March 2008.
Guavagarage founders Daniel Kessler and Daniel Brown say that their aim is to connect all aspects of the music industry, from independent bands, their fans, venues and labels. Guavagarage explain the current relationship between these parties as one of exploitation ? and they aim to turn this on its head.
?We both share a strong interest in all types of music and we formed this venture in an effort to change the way in which music is distributed, produced, managed and enjoyed by fans worldwide,? explained Kessler.
The site will offer independent artists the tools to more effectively market their music including the ability to produce albums (and artwork) and individual track streaming.
Guavagarage will have an e-commerce functionality, allowing fans to purchase music ? profits of which will then be shared with the artists.
