The App Accelerator allows developers to turn their widgets into applications for the popular social networking site's Open Application Platform.  WidgetBox's App Accelerator was launched for Facebook in September 2007.

Giles Goodwin, chief technology officer and co-founder of WidgetBox comments, "We are very excited to be working with Bebo. By doing so, we offer our developers a new avenue to distribute their widgets virally across the web. Beboers will now be able to access thousands of widgets in the form of a Bebo app to find the perfect one that helps them convey their personalities and enables them to share content on Bebo. We are excited for Bebo users to have access to our developers' unique and engaging content and we expect to see application adoption soar, much like we've seen with other social networking applications."

With the introduction of the WidgetBox App Accelerator, Bebo users will have more than 30,000 widgets and applications to customise their Bebo profiles with.

Bebo chief executive officer and co-founder Michael Birch says, "We are committed to making it as seamless as possible for developers to reach our community with innovative ideas and engaging content -- the Widgetbox App Accelerator helps us to further this goal."

Bebo introduced the Open Application Platform on December 12 2007, at the same time as Facebook announcing plans to open up their Platform Architecture -- and were effectively the first to implement's the standards defined by the Facebook platform.  Bebo were also one of the first networks to partner with Google's OpenSocial, and plans to integrate it into their network in early 2008.  Their Open Application Platform partners include NBC Universal, Yahoo!, the NBA, Gap, CBS and Last.fm.
