One of the world?s most popular social networking sites,
Facebook has announced the addition of a new means to interact with friends on their Facebook profile.
From today, Facebook users will be able to leave comments for friends in their ?Mini-Feed? on their profile, allowing them to add comments on individual status updates, new friends or applications that have been added (or removed). Previously, the only place to converse directly with friends in this manner was via Facebook email, posting on ?The Wall? or adding comments to photos, notes and posted items.
Tom Whitnah, a Facebook software engineer who made the announcement on the company?s
developer?s blog this morning says, ?At Facebook, we're always trying to find new ways to make communication easier and more efficient. One way we do that is by making it easy to have a conversation about the things that happen on Facebook. Now you can easily converse around friends' statuses, application stories, new friendships, videos, and most other stories you see on their profile.?
The move follows a number of changes to Facebook profiles this year following user feedback. In January 2008, Facebook announced the introduction of a '
profile clean up tool' that they likened to that of the Window's prompt to remove unused icons from your desktop. Also in January, due to an ?anomalously high level of user complaints? Facebook restricted the ability for applications to update the News Feed and Mini-Feed to those applications Facebook deem are ?engaging in deceptive or malicious behaviour.?
In February, Facebook announced the number of notifications that each Facebook application is able to send to application users will be determined by the
popularity of the application. Due to complaints from Facebook users regarding the number of notifications they received, Facebook restricted the amount of
notifications that a single application could issue to users on any given day to 40.
Facebook Chat launched in April 2008 to allow users to interact with each other in real-time on instant messenger without leaving the social utility.
