Professional
social networking platform LinkedIn has today announced a new directory for to
help users more easily find groups of interest.
LinkedIn currently hosts upwards
of 90,000 groups that enable its business-to-business (B2B) community to tap
into a rich seam of knowledge and contacts.
As its name
indicates, the new directory consists of a complete list of all groups
registered on Linkedin. It is directly
accessible through the site?s user interface both from the left navigation
panel and from the upper right hand section of the page.
Announced
today on the LinkedIn Blog, the Groups Directory will be made available to
users on 11 July 2008.
Users will have the ability to locate specific groups of interest based on either the group name or a keyword
in the group description. Results can be
sorted according to group size and through a system of filters that allows for
the crossing of categories including alumni, corporate, conference, networking,
non-profit and professional. Group
administrators are free to opt out of the list if they wish their group to
remain private.
Comments
from LinkedIn users following the announcement indicate that the lack of a
directory such as this has been a previous ?stumbling blog? when navigating LinkedIn
groups, and that the feature will be well received.
