With a current catalogue listing upwards of 70,000 applications embedded on more than 929,000 unique websites, Widgetbox claims to be the world?s largest resource for widgets. It has
recently expanded its offer further still with the addition of several new functionalities to its ?Custom Galleries?, a feature that enables social networks to make personalised widget options available to their members.
The new offerings unveiled include the possibility for online networks to construct their own widget galleries by customising their category-structure and visual appearance. Integration with third-party sites has been simplified with new options for imbedding galleries, in addition to customisable sorting that gives partners more choice as to how widgets are merchandised. An effort has been made to render branding for personalised widgets easier and a revenue share program is available for promoted widgets.
Owing to their popularity, widgets play a crucial role in sustaining the loyalty and brand identification of social networkers, a fact
Widgetbox?s chief executive officer Will Price is keen to underline, remarking that, "Widget access, choice and reach are no longer simply desired by networks and advertisers; these are requirements for a maturing market.? ?With Custom Galleries by Widgetbox, our partners can meet these requirements quickly and easily -- and they can do so anywhere on the web, not just on Facebook.?
Widgetbox?s Custom Galleries was originally launched in May 2007 in a joint effort with Facebook. They support a wide range of online media platforms, which at the time of writing include Bebo, Amnesty Hypercube, Doodlekit, Freewebs, Friendcodes, Netvibes, Nimble.ie, Piczo, staHrt, SynthaSite, TypePad, Webjam and Xanga.
