News Corporation?s MySpace Mobile joins RipCode to bring streaming video to mobile

Popular social networking site MySpace has today announced a partnership with mobile video provider RipCode, to provide video streaming to MySpace Mobile users.

MySpace, who claim to be the first to bring high quality streaming video to mobile, say that the MySpace Mobile site receives three billion page views per month, from over 10 million monthly unique visitors.  MySpace?s new video for mobile service utilises RipCode?s On-Demand Video Transcoding technology.

John Faith, vice president and general manager of MySpace of Mobile says that there is increasing demand from their users for portability of content.  ?Video is a natural next step for us in mobile.  MySpace will continue to grow our video library as we increase delivery channels in order to keep pace with our users? accelerating desire for video consumption.?

The MySpace mobile video service will be rolled out in beta globally, and will be supported on the most popular streaming enabled mobile handsets.  More devices will be added as the service grows.

RipCode?s chief executive officer Brendon Mills says that as video on mobile grows in demand, companies have to find new and alternative ways to deliver high quality service video to multiple devices ? particularly mobile.  Mills goes on to say, ?MySpace?s decision to choose RipCode?s innovative transcoding solution is proof that market leaders are embracing change in traditional transcoding methodologies and looking for smarter, more scalable solutions to manage mobile video growth.
