iGoogle to translate Google international blogs en masse
Google?s global blogs get multi-lingual support through iGoogle and Google Translate
Google has
rolled out new translation features for its Google group of blogs; enabling readers to translate any and all Google blogs into 34 languages.
In September 2008, Google launched an
iGoogle gadget that enabled Google enthusiasts to read all Google blog posts from one application. The new gadget version, credited to Google developer Ben Lisbakken, translates said blog posts into a array of languages, including Arabic, Czech, Hebrew, Latvian and Vietnamese.
Google?s Jordan Newman comments, ?If you want to learn more about Google in Latin America or AdWords in Russia, but haven?t had the chance to learn Spanish or Russian, give the gadget a spin. While machine translation is not exact, and we?re constantly working to improve the quality, hopefully this new feature lets you get the gist of the post.?
The translation is done through
Google Translate, launched earlier in 2008, will automatically translate the posts into the default language of the browser whilst still giving the user control over changing this manually for individual posts.
Earlier this week, Google added 38 language support across its photo sharing site Picasa.
Picasa recently launched an array of new features, such as web sync, movie editing, photo retouching and the ability to organise photos by adding name tags. These new features, as well as others across the Picasa site, are now available for non-English speaking countries.
Jason Cool, product marketing manager at Google explains, ?Of course, having a truly global audience sharing and commenting on photos is one of the things that makes Picasa special. The people and places you'll spot on our Explore page attest to this, as do the multilingual comments users receive on their most popular public albums. That's why we just launched automatic comment translation on Picasa Web Albums, which harnesses Google Translate to make sure you know that ?美麗的落日? means ?Beautiful sunset!??
