New web 2.0 dating site DownToEarth.com to encourage singles to review each other

Match.com, arguably the world's most popular internet dating site, has today launched a free online dating site that will centre around a 'self-policing' environment.

As the name suggests, DownToEarth.com aims to attract singles who are down to earth and are looking for relationships with like-minded individuals.  The site aims to appeal to those daters who are tired of the 'misrepresentation on other free dating sites' by encouraging them to rate and review their dates after meeting them in person.

Match.com's chief executive officer Thomas Enraght-Moony comments, "With the addition of DownToEarth.com, we're continuing our successful portfolio strategy.  Every brand we offer provides something unique to consumers.  For DownToEarth.com, we created the breakthrough RealRatings? system to allow members to self-police for continuous improvement of the community."

After meeting in person, daters are encouraged to go back to the DownToEarth website and rate the accuracy of the information provided in their date's profile; from their appearance to their personality description, singles are asked to rate give a score between one and five ? with one being 'not even close' and five being 'true to life.'  Match.com hopes this will 'empower the community to create the dating environment they're seeking.'

The DownToEarth website explains why it's gone down the free-route.  'We created the site with two key goals in mind: quality and honesty.  After building game changing tools to assure member validity and designing easy and elegant interfaces, we wondered how to make it even better.  The answer was simple ? 100% free."

DownToEarth soft launched in 2008 and employs a zero tolerance policy for lewd and inappropriate photos and content.
