YouTube allow community to delete individual video comments
Google owned YouTube add comment deletion feature to help prevent bullying and spelling mistakes
Global video sharing site
YouTube has announced a new feature that will allow YouTube community members to delete comments they have made on other users videos.
Announced on the
official blog, the YouTube team say that this is a feature that has been requested by many users. They are hopeful that by enabling comment deletion, it will help alleviate any issues such as bullying and harassment as well as allowing the user to have control over spelling mistakes and comments that may be regretted afterwards.
The YouTube team
says, ?This new feature will empower you to more easily and effectively handle these types of situations, without needing help from staff. Of course, we always encourage everyone to think things through before posting comments anywhere on the site. But if you don?t get it right the first time, now you can simply delete your comment.?
Whilst the news was welcomed by many users with feedback such as, ?Very good update to the site, five stars? and ?It?s wicked that you guys have done this ? no need for worrying now,? not all were as pleased.
One user,
Th1sWasATriumph, is concerned that by allowing users to remove their own comments that debates and conversations that take place about a video will become worthless. Th1sWasATriumph goes on to explain, ?If someone can effectively go back in time and remove something they've said, all foundations for discussion will erode. Any chance of specifying which author removed their comment so they can be called on it? I'm aware this sounds petty, but I guarantee the removal feature will get this kind of abuse.?
