New application recommendation engine AppSpace launches
AppSpace, a new mobile application directory launched by invisibleSHIELD company ZAGG
A new service to recommend mobile applications has launched in beta over the weekend. Billed as a ?application recommendation engine?,
AppSpace aims to help app users to share and discover new applications for their mobile devices.
AppSpace is the creation of publicly listed
ZAGG, the company behind invisibleSHIELD, a protective film that the company claim is of military strength. On the AppSpace blog, the team behind the idea say the service originated early in 2009, from which point they hired a team of young, aspiring developers to build it.
Launching in beta, the AppSpace team comment, ?You can expect to see us roll out features on a regular basis to enhance app discovery and the entire AppSpace.com experience. Some of the features we?ll be rolling out in the near future include advertising opportunities for app developers, Facebook Connect integration, an iPhone AppSpace application and app discovery for additional mobile phone platforms.?
At launch, users on the AppSpace.com site can discover and share applications through social features such as an ?intelligent mobile app recommendation engine,? a mobile app search engine, demo videos integrated through YouTube, app ratings (which improve the recommendation engine), app bookmarking and a personalised profile page.
The recommendation engine works based on information the user provides, meaning that the more complete the information and profile they use, the better the recommendations will be. The engine considers the users profile, current apps and the ratings when recommending new applications.
Currently, only iPhone applications are listed in the AppSpace directory, of which there are over 26,700 listed. The app can be rated and bookmarked from within the search engine, although users can not currently filter the results by popularity or type.
