Myspace expands its new social networking makeover to mobile entertainment side
Social networking site Myspace has
announced a new mobile site and iPhone application to expand their mobile social entertainment offering.
The
new Myspace site, which officially re-launched at the end of October 2010, is now accessible on iPhone, iPod Touch, Android, Palm and a range of Nokia and Blackberry devices. In the announcement, Myspace say more than one third of it?s users access the site via mobile daily, and its hoped these changes enable them to consume and engage with more content on the go.
Michael Jones, Myspace?s chief executive officer comments, ?We have a two-pronged approach to our mobile strategy. We are creating the best experience for Myspace mobile web users by taking the most compelling entertainment elements of
Myspace.com and making them portable, while simultaneously building a portfolio of independent mobile applications tailored specifically to entertainment categories. This approach allows us to offer a meaningful social entertainment experience on mobile that is both fast and engaging.?
Lifting directly from the Myspace announcement, the
new mobile site will provide users with:
- A rich discovery experience around entertainment;
- Music: Breaking news and status updates from
top artists
- Video: TMZ, Fuel TV, FOX, National Geographic,
Movie Trailers and more
- Celebrity: Status updates, photos and blogs
- The ability to easily share photos, videos, links, status updates and more across multiple networks
- The option to enjoy without logging in
The iPhone application, which doesn?t launch for a few weeks, will ?provide an experience that is centred on the activity stream.? The app will identify the artists the user is interested in by gathering data from the users own iTunes library. The Myspace app will then stream updates from those musicians to the user automatically.
