SocialWorkout.com New York, NY (PRWEB) -- With the national health care debate raging, obesity on the rise, and films like Food, Inc. dominating the headlines, web community SocialWorkout.com has risen to the challenge with a free "mind-belly" challenge. Teaming up with Whole Foods Market, Equinox, and Apartment Therapy's food blog, TheKitchn.com, the site is challenging readers to work out 20 days over the course of the month and achieve 10 food-related feats. Readers can then track their progress on SocialWorkout.com.

"We all want to feel good in our bodies, and to have more energy, but we get busy, and then skip the workout, and eat junk," said Social Workout founder Oliver Ryan. "We've found people like having the inspiration and accountability of a online community challenge. This is our fourth and most ambitious challenge to date, and we're thrilled to be working with Whole Foods Market, Equinox, and Apartment Therapy. These are the absolute leaders in living well and responsibly."

Working with nutritionists from Rouge Tomate and Clean Plates New York, as well as Whole Foods and TheKitchn.com, SocialWorkout editors crafted a selection of 22 feats. Among others are, LOCALVORE and SODA FREE and BROWN BAGGER and LO MOO, which ask readers to adopt new eating habits, such as bring lunch to work, make a smoothie every morning, cut out caffeine, or go vegan for the month. The challenge will be promoted in Whole Foods Market stores and Equinox clubs and online, and SocialWorkout expects to draw its largest crowd to date. Readers file daily reports online at SocialWorkout.com, sharing intel on recipes, personal trainers, and not-to-be-missed gym classes.

"We are proud to be working with SocialWorkout.com to help promote such a wonderful healthy living initiative," said Rebecca Ulanoff, Marketing Team Leader of Whole Foods Market Union Square location. "Whole Foods Market consistently makes efforts to encourage our customers to make healthy, smart and educated choices to protect their health and well being. We are thrilled to take part in a program so focused on helping shoppers track and achieve their healthy lifestyle goals."

"Equinox knows the power of challenges to help people meet their fitness goals," said David Geller, Vice President of Marketing at Equinox. "With our January Equinox Challenge, we challenged our new members to workout 36 times in their first 90 days of membership to earn back their initiation fee. That's how committed we are to exceeding our members' expectations and helping them achieve results. We are thrilled to be part of Socialworkout.com's Fall Challenge."

"City Harvest's work feeding hungry New Yorkers has long had a focus on providing healthy, fresh foods to those in need in our city. We appreciate being named the beneficiary of the Eat. Sweat. Blog. Event," said City Harvest Executive Director Jilly Stephens. "The funds raised through this promotion will allow us to ensure that everyone in our city has access to the types of foods that contribute to good health."
