Founder of Online Physician Rating Site DrScore Creates Patient Satisfaction Blog

Dr. Steven Feldman Uses Forum to Discuss Patient Satisfaction, Health-care Reform and More

DrScore logoWINSTON-SALEM, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--As rhetoric around health-care reform continues to swirl, there is one voice that wants to remind the public about a core principal in medicine: the physician-patient relationship. Patient satisfaction expert Steven Feldman, M.D., Ph.D., has started a new DrScore Blog at http://drscore.wordpress.com/.

?Preserving the basic relationship between patient and doctor is essential to realizing the goals of cost-effective, quality health care,? said Dr. Feldman, founder of the online physician rating site DrScore.com. ?When patients feel their doctors genuinely care and listen, they are more likely to actively and successfully collaborate with their providers in managing their health and health outcomes. For example, satisfied patients are more likely to follow the doctor?s course of treatment and take the prescribed medications. This leads to better health outcomes and ultimately controls costs.?

Dr. Feldman started blogging this September on such topics as ?Are There ?Bad Guys? in Health Care?? and ?Seven Suggestions to Increase Patient Satisfaction.? ?This will be a resource for physicians and patients to learn from each other about strengthening physician-patient relationships and patient satisfaction overall,? he said. ?We are all this together, and we share one common goal: to get better. The way to achieve that goal is to work together, provide feedback and learn from our mistakes.?

Feldman noted that a key issue of health-care reform involves patients taking greater responsibility for their health-care decisions and the cost of those decisions. ?Patients need to be at the center of health-care decision-making,? he said. ?Giving patients information on health-care quality and other helpful health education resources is one way DrScore empowers patients to be better health-care consumers.?

Dr. Feldman is a professor of dermatology, pathology and public health sciences at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, N.C. In 2005, he started the online physician rating Web site DrScore.com after he received feedback from a patient who didn?t think he was caring. ?Even though it was a criticism, the patient did me a favor, teaching me that we needed to make sure our customers were satisfied,? Dr. Feldman said. ?And the best way to do that is to ask our patients to provide feedback and then provide doctors with analysis and identification of specific areas for improvement. This helps doctors do what they want to do most: give their patients great medical care.?
