New Web Site Examines Phrase 'Failure is Not an Option' in Effort to
Redefine Success, Build Online Community
REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ten employees of high-pressure companies in Washington, Texas, Nevada
and Arizona have pooled their resources to launch FINAO.net, a Web site
that examines the business mantra "Failure Is Not An Option," and
inspires people to do their personal best.
The site launches today at www.finao.net,
after a beta period that generated feedback through a FINAO (pronounced
fin/ou) Facebook page, as well as through impromptu focus groups and
discussions among the investors' friends and families. It is the
brainchild of Wallace Greene and Jon Morrow, co-workers with Microsoft
Corp.'s Unified Communications group in Redmond, Wash.
The idea for FINAO was born from a practice Greene initiated years ago
in Reno, Nev. During a very intense period when his team was working
long days to meet internal business deadlines, Greene turned "Failure Is
Not An Option" into a motivational tool that employees latched onto.
Soon, Greene says, they were high-fiving and shouting "FINAO!" as they
passed each other in the hallways -- pushing themselves even harder and
working smarter to meet deadlines.
Greene's colleagues, who remembered that experience, recently convinced
him to share the spirit of FINAO with others.
"We believe there are many ordinary citizens doing extraordinary things
across the nation, and wanted to create a platform where we could share
their stories," says Greene, president and chief executive of JoMoWag,
LLC., the company formed to operate FINAO.net. "FINAO is both a
motivational concept and a growing community of individuals who believe
in the strength of the message and its ability to energize people in all
walks of life."
The goal for FINAO.net, adds Morrow, JoMoWag's chief technology and
operating officer, is to get people talking about the definition of
success, and establishing their own criteria for individual success.
"We especially want young people to understand that success shouldn't be
defined by people's appearance or age, how much schooling they've had,
or by the sizes of their bank accounts," Morrow says. "FINAO is about
individuals acknowledging and conquering their own challenges, and
deciding what's most important to them."
FINAO.net includes a blog, a public forum, links to news stories that
illustrate the spirit of FINAO, and an online store featuring
FINAO-branded clothes and accessories. JoMoWag will donate portions of
the proceeds of sales from merchandise to Gilda's Club, Taelor's House
Foundation, West Seattle Foodbank, and the Executive Development
Institute.
JoMoWag's investors include other employees of Microsoft; a
Seattle-based employee of Audi of America; an employee of The Boeing
Co., Seattle; an investor with Exxon Mobil Corp. in Houston; an eBay
Inc. employee in Reno, Nev., and a retired physician in Scottsdale, Ariz.
