Top German Social Game Developer wooga GmbH Selects Level 3 for
Content Delivery Network Services
Level 3 Providing Caching and Storage for wooga?s Library of Facebook
Games
LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Level 3 Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: LVLT) today announced it is
providing content delivery network (CDN) services, including caching and
storage, for Berlin-based startup wooga GmbH, a developer of popular
games for social networks like Facebook.
?For game companies like wooga, who?ve experienced rapid growth over a
short period of time, Level 3?s caching and storage solutions provide a
particularly attractive alternative to costly infrastructure
investments?
As of June 2010, wooga?s Bubble Island game was one of the top-25
Facebook games in the world, with more than six million users in
approximately 150 countries. The company also currently ranks as the
eighth largest game developer on Facebook. At present, wooga has three
live game titles, Brain Buddies, Bubble Island and Monster World. Under
the terms of the contract, Level 3 is providing CDN support for all
three titles.
?Since our first game launched in 2009, our monthly active user numbers
have grown exponentially ? we?re currently seeing more than seven
billion requests for our game content per month. As our business grows,
we need a CDN that can grow with us,? said Jens Begemann, founder and
chief executive officer of wooga. ?Level 3?s caching and storage
services allow us to focus on creating games that people around the
world want to play, without worrying about meeting bandwidth demand or
adding infrastructure to accommodate growth.?
With Level 3 Origin Storage services, developers and publishers like
wooga have direct access to Level 3?s Tier 1 IP backbone and the ability
to scale their storage as the need arises without having to incur the
cost of building out or managing additional infrastructure on their own.
Level 3 Caching services provide gaming companies with a cost-effective
means of securely delivering game content leveraging Level 3?s highly
connected IP network and more than 35 strategically placed caching
locations around the world. When an end-user requests wooga?s game
content, the request is intelligently directed to the optimum Level 3
caching location, resulting in the same fast, reliable user experience
whether the user is playing in Berlin or Boston.
?For game companies like wooga, who?ve experienced rapid growth over a
short period of time, Level 3?s caching and storage solutions provide a
particularly attractive alternative to costly infrastructure
investments,? said James Heard, president of European Markets at Level
3. ?By working with Level 3, wooga has access to the network reach and
scalability they need to consistently deliver quality content to
customers all over the world, supported by a team of experts in content
delivery.?
From content capture to consumption, Level 3 works with game developers
and publishers to tailor solutions ? from intelligent traffic management
to metrics to support for major launches ? to meet their specific needs.
