YouTube Fights Homelessness as InvisiblePeople.tv Founder Mark Horvath Guest Curates Homepage on Sunday, August 22

Honor Commemorates Midpoint of Nationwide Road Trip to Raise Awareness Using the Power of Social Media

YouTube logoNEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire) -  YouTube will join the fight against homelessness this Sunday (August 22nd) as it invites InvisiblePeople.tv Founder Mark Horvath to guest curate the site's homepage with videos that smash stereotypes about America's most forgotten citizens.

The opportunity to curate YouTube's homepage coincides with the halfway point of InvisiblePeople.tv's 2010 Road Trip U.S.A., which is dedicated to helping homeless individuals and families in 28 cities tell their stories using online social media. Horvath is a nationally recognized advocate who founded the nonprofit InvisiblePeople.tv organization in 2008 as a way to rebuild his life following his own bout with homelessness.

Armed with a hand-held video camera, laptop computer and smartphone, Horvath is posting unedited reports from the road trip on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites, as well as on the www.InvisiblePeople.tv video blog (vlog).

"I'm honored and very grateful to YouTube for providing this unique opportunity for homeless people to share their stories with a massive global audience," Horvath said.

The videos that Horvath curates will be featured on YouTube's homepage for 24 hours, and permanently available on InvisiblePeople.tv's YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/invisiblepeopletv. In addition, a Q&A with Horvath will be featured on YouTube's blog at www.youtube.com/blog

"Our goal is to use social media to expose the pain, hardship and hopelessness that millions of people face each day," Horvath added. "With YouTube's help, we're making the 'invisible people' in society more visible by bringing them out of the shadows where they are too often ignored."

About InvisiblePeople.tv
InvisiblePeople.tv is a grassroots 501(c)3 nonprofit founded in 2008 by advocate Mark Horvath (@hardlynormal on Twitter). The organization is primarily self-funded, along with a $50,000 grant from the Pepsi Refresh Challenge. After building a successful career in television syndication, Mark found himself homeless in 1995 following a battle with addiction. He worked hard to clean up his act, and was again living comfortably by 2007 with a three-bedroom house and a 780 credit score. But then the recession hit. After several layoffs and a foreclosure, he was once again facing homelessness. That's when Mark launched InvisiblePeople.tv with just $45 and a budding interest in online social media. In November 2009, he was named "one of the top activists to follow on Twitter" by the Huffington Post. More information is available at:
