Back to the Future Blasts Its Way Into Facebook Game ?Car Town?
In Celebration of 25th
Anniversary of the ?Back to the Future? Franchise, Virtual Replica of
One of the Film?s Most Iconic Vehicles is Available for the First Time
within Facebook
LONG BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The space-time continuum now intersects with cyberspace - as Doc Brown's
DeLorean time machine from Back to the Future makes the art of
time travel possible within the popular Facebook game Car Town (www.CarTown.com).
?Being involved in a game like Car Town lets entertainment
companies instantly access a large audience of engaged players. It?s a
great way for fans to interact with their favorite movies and
characters.?
For the first time ever, and in celebration of the 25th
anniversary of the Academy Award®-winning cinematic franchise, Facebook
members can experience the thrill of owning the one-of-a-kind vehicle by
upgrading a standard DeLorean with signature parts including the Flux
Capacitor or the Mr. Fusion Kit to enable time travel within the game.
Car Town is a social game created by Cie Games in which players collect
and customize virtual cars, build their dream garages and help their
friends do the same. It?s the only game on Facebook built around
licensed automotive brands. Cie Games created the unique Back to the
Future integration through a license agreement with Universal
Partnerships & Licensing.
Unlike most virtual items within a Facebook game, the Back to the
Future goods provide a functional benefit - giving players special
abilities to earn more points.
In Car Town, players perform tasks that earn points to purchase
additional virtual goods for their garages. But some of those jobs have
time limits - players must redeem their points within a certain
designated time frame before the job expires, or they miss out on
collecting those points.
With the DeLorean time machine, players are able to turn back time if
they missed their jobs, or travel forward in time to mature pending
tasks to collect their points early.
In addition to the time machine, players can visit Doc Brown?s garage
where they?ll find recognizable film items such as Marty McFly?s guitar
and the famous hover board.
?It makes a lot of sense for entertainment brands to get involved with
successful social games,? said Justin Choi, president and CEO of Cie
Games. ?Being involved in a game like Car Town lets entertainment
companies instantly access a large audience of engaged players. It?s a
great way for fans to interact with their favorite movies and
characters.?
?Car Town is a tremendously enjoyable social network game, and we are
excited to bring the Back to the Future time machine to it,? said Bill
Kispert, VP and General Manager, Digital Platforms, Universal
Partnerships & Licensing. ?We are thrilled that it will be integrated
into the game in a fun and meaningful way for fans and players alike.?
Players use virtual currency to purchase and customize hundreds of
vehicles ranging from vintage Model Ts to AMC Pacers and 1960s muscle
cars to luxury and exotics ? even milk trucks, ice cream trucks and taco
trucks ? and store their collections in customizable virtual garages.
The Car Town virtual items launch is to coincide with the recent release
of the Back to the Future 25th Anniversary Trilogy, now available
on Blu-ray and DVD, featuring all-new restorations of the classic films.
