BENTONVILLE, Ark/PRNewswire/ -- Every day, people are taking steps to live more sustainably. And whether big or small, each contribution is important. To encourage and spread more environmentally-inspired changes, Walmart and Mother Nature Network are inviting people to share their ideas and innovations on Twitter for a chance to win a $100 Walmart gift card. The contest is inspired byThe Leaderboard, a new editorial destination from Walmart and Mother Nature Network celebrating innovators and visionaries who are improving our world.
The contest begins at 11 a.m. CST when @WalmartGreen will post the inaugural question: "Tell us your idea for an eco-friendly gift for your Valentine." To be eligible to win, users must follow @WalmartGreen and reply to @WalmartGreen with their response. Submissions will be accepted until 5 p.m. CST, and all responses should include the #WinItWednesday hashtag to be considered. Three entries will be selected and the winners will each receive a $100 Walmart gift card along with a chance to have their winning idea featured on The Leaderboard and Walmart's The Green Room.
Joel Babbit, CEO and co-founder of Mother Nature Network, and Andrea Thomas, senior vice president of sustainability at Walmart, will help choose the winners, whose stories or sustainability tips will then be published on The Green Room within the month.
A new contest will be announced on the first Wednesday of each month.
"When it comes to the environment, even the smallest positive change matters," said Joel Babbit, Chief Executive Officer of Mother Nature Network. "We will never know where the next, brilliant idea will come from, but this contest may bring it to life thanks to a simple tweet."
"The creativity that inspires sustainability solutions within our company has always impressed me, which is why I'm eager to see what sustainability-inspired changes people are making in their own lives every day," said Andrea Thomas, senior vice president of sustainability at Walmart. "I hope celebrating everyday steps in this fun and simple way will inspire even more people to explore how easy it can be to take action, both in-home and in-store."
