Earth Day Kicked Off the State?s First Social Media Contest to Keep California Cool
CoolCalifornia.org Launches Multi-Tiered Effort to Inspire Californians to Protect Their State from Climate Change
SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--This year to celebrate Earth Week, CoolCalifornia.org launched a multi-tiered campaign to inspire Californians to prevent climate change and keep California cool in every way.
- Cool/Not Cool Contest: Earth Day (April 22) kicked off the start of the state?s first ever social media contest to help spread the word about how each of us can take simple steps that, together, will help fight climate change. This two-week contest invites Californians to
1) Unleash their creativity and share their photos, drawings, or graphics of an eco-friendly (cool) or polluting (not cool) activity or scene, and
2) Tell CoolCalifornia.org which eco-friendly actions they take to keep California?s climate cool.
The winner will receive two spa treatments and a three night stay at the eco-friendly Sausalito Casa Madrona Hotel & Spa, valued at $1,550. The runner-up entry wins a Linus Bike, and weekly eco-friendly raffle prizes will be given, including USA-made Polar Water Bottles!
News of the contest and Californians? photos will be circulated on CoolCalifornia.org?s Facebook, Pinterest, and Twitter accounts, so that everyone can see and share ideas and be encouraged to take further efforts to protect California from climate change. Entries must be received by May 5, and winners will be announced May 10.
- CoolCalifornia on Air: To wrap up Earth Week on Friday (April 26), a 30-second TV Public Service Announcement will hit the airwaves to highlight the beauty of California?s unique natural landscapes, tapping into people?s state pride and inspiring them to keep California?s environment cool. It will feature scenes such as poppy-covered hillsides; the bay and the Golden Gate Bridge; peaks and beaches; solar panels and wind turbines; and people growing their own food, recycling, biking and hiking; and more. The PSA can be viewed on CoolCalifornia.org?s Youtube Channel http://youtu.be/gOE6Nq-9Ub4.
- CoolCalifornia Mobile App: Expected for release this June, smart phone and tablet users can stay cool on the go with their new mobile app which will allow people to calculate their carbon footprint while walking or biking around town?and guide their own footprints to the most eco-friendly path. It suggests eco-friendly alternatives to actions in several categories, including travel and energy use. For each possible action, it lets you see the costs and the carbon footprint, find funding, make a pledge, and share your story. For use by individuals and businesses, it also gives access to climate-friendly resources and tips.
- CoolCalifornia Businesses Video: Also expected for release this June, a two-minute video will highlight simple climate action steps businesses can take to keep California cool. This engaging video uses animation to share case studies of real California businesses that have made environmentally friendly changes, saved money, and reduced their environmental impact. It will conclude with a message on where businesses can find the tools to go green.
