Sharil Tarmizi, Chairman, MCMC In aiming to raise awareness for a potential propulsion in the new world of Imagination Economy, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is organising KL CONVERGE, a three-day event, from 17 - 19 September,at theKuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

The event is also poised to position Malaysia as ASEAN's leading digital media and communications hub in fortifying creative content synergies through digital integration.

"Creative content is facing a new and exciting growth in digital distribution," says MCMC ChairmanMohamed Sharil Tarmizi. "We need to innovate using these distribution platforms to scale sales operations, fashion operational efficiencies, and progress marketing effectiveness to deliver digital assets, programming, and creative content to global audiences."

The inaugural KL CONVERGE event also serves as an arena for local and international visitors to network and explore investment and trade opportunities, to share experiences and fresh ideas, and explore areas of cooperation between local investors and global creative leaders.

"In today's technology-driven economy, the ubiquitous Internet and mobile distribution channels are generating new opportunities to deliver content to the public with refreshed levels of customer satisfaction, measurable results, and accuracy," believes Sharil.

KL CONVERGE brings marketing, information technology and other media and entertainment industry executives, who are advancing new technologies to enhance business for film, TV, and home entertainment across a multitude of distribution platforms. Other participants include venture capitalists, telecommunications executives, music publishers, producers, and content creators.

Among the planned activities include conferences, exhibitions, master classes, workshops and seminars. Key speakers for the event are Oscar-winning film production designer and directorRoger Christian, LucasFilm Executive EditorJ.W. Rinzler, composer, arranger and conductor Steve Sidwell, Industrial Light and Magic's Chief Creative OfficerJonathan Knolls, Pixar's Visual Effects EditorDavid Tanaka, and Prime Focus Animation VFX's founder and CEO Namit Malhotra.

Sharil recounts, "It was impossible to imagine a few short years ago that a Malaysian film,The Journey, could beat international blockbusters to emerge as the nation's highest grossing movie ever withRM17.16 million. It certainly demonstrates that we have the talent, the resources, and the imagination to turnMalaysia into a multi-billion ringgit creative content industry."

The statistics speak volumes for closing the gap between the East and the West. The international box-office currently accounts for 70% of worldwide earnings. Variety magazine estimates thatChina could yield US$5 billion in value potential forHollywood studios within the next three years.

"In simplistic terms, convergence comprises three phases," Sharil asserts. "Digitization is the technology, integration is the strategy, and globalisation is the business necessity. In the near future, the map of cross-sector alliances will provide access to new markets, minimise financial risks, and reduce competition."

Entrance to KL CONVERGE events is free for everyone. For the full programme of activities, please visitwww.klconverge.com <http://www.klconverge.com/>.
