Earn Talktime, a crowdsourcing platform, incubated in India, has emerged as the largest player providing ad-funded virtual currency to India's early adopter segment. Launched in 2013 by RationalHeads Technologies, a fast growing Indian tech start-up, Earn Talktime till date has dispersed virtual currency worth over 50 crore rupees and empowered 13 million youth in India to earn money in their mobile wallet by discovering and engaging with mobile applications and brands. With a growth rate of 110% in 2015-16, Earn Talktime has captured 40% market share of mobile advertising ad-funded wallet industry and aims to grow at 50% y-o-y over the next three years, as it adds new products and expands into geographies outside of India.

It is also the biggest inhibitor to mobile app adoption by users especially the early adopters like the youth. We wanted to help subsidise the spending costs of the youth and hence launched Earn Talktime in India 18 months back. We have empowered this category of users with additional purchasing power in the form of virtual currency which can be easily earned by engaging with mobile applications and by performing actions within Earn Talktime. 90% of our users have actively utilised their virtual currency to recharge their prepaid mobile connections, make payment of a post-paid mobile and landline, followed by 15% who are seen utilising it to do DTH recharges."
Students constitute 73% of Earn Talktime user base. With 85% of Earn Talktime subscriber base below 25 years of age, the company is currently driving over 10 million mobile app installs and brand engagements for its advertising partners every month.
Over 350 emerging and established Indian brands such as Flipkart, Snapdeal, Amazon, Gaana, Paytm and Shopclues amongst others are utilising the Earn Talktime crowdsourcing platform to engage with their potential target audience on mobile and gain insights on the mobile app space. "Consumer brands have been figuring out new ways to engage with early adopters who were scattered across traditional and digital platforms. Earn Talktime is enabling brands to create virtual experience zones that allows sampling of mobile applications by potential users without worrying about mobile data usage or cost," remarked Sandeep.
Currently, brands from all major categories have a presence on the Earn Talktime platform. 85% of digital adoption on the platform can be attributed to e-commerce applications followed by mobile wallets that have seen 82% downloads. Music apps (69%), Taxi apps (43%) and Travel apps (42%) are other popular categories that have witnessed adoption and sampling by a leading percentage of users.
With its corporate headquarter in Delhi-NCR and the current team size of over 30 people; RationalHeads Technologies plans to grow exponentially taking the headcount to 75 by mid-2016. The company is also aiming to launch Earn Talktime in the South East Asian markets by early 2016.
