An Interview with Steve Creek, Web Content Manager at WhichBingo UK
Social Media Portal (SMP): What is WhichBingo UK's Podcast?
Steve Creek (SC): The Podcast is the latest addition to leading online bingo portal WhichBingo UK and another way for online bingo players and industry professionals to catch up on the latest news and interviews.
SMP: What made you start WhichBingo UK Podcast?SC: We are always looking for ways to improve our portal and we felt a podcast would add a great new dimension to the content already available at WhichBingo UK, which includes the internet?s largest UK directory, a reviews section, video hot shots and a blog. The podcast gives us a great chance to reach out to and connect with our audience and it gives our visitors something to take away from the site and listen to at their leisure.
SMP: Tell us about the WhichBingo UK Podcast, why did you start it?SC: Well, it's as above really. The podcast is the latest development of our site as we look to bring WhichBingo UK up-to-date in terms of the content and technology we offer our visitors. Whilst our news, offers, features and reviews work well in written form, we felt they would work equally well in audio form.
SMP: Who are your target audience and why?SC: Online bingo players! We aim to be the first port of call to all online bingo players, whether they are looking for a new place to play, seeking the best free money offers or wanting to air their views on their favourite sites. Bingo players come from all walks of life and we try to make sure there is something on our site and in our podcast to interest everyone.
SMP: How did you initially attract users to the blog and how do you do it now?SC: Our blog is part of our website, WhichBingo.co.uk, and people are finding it on our site navigation and checking back regularly to read our updates. We also send out emails to people we know in the industry to let them know about blog posts of particular interest.
SMP: What are your low moments of what you have been doing so far?SC:There haven?t been many low moments! We are really enjoying pushing our site forward and keeping ourselves at the head of a very competitive bunch of online bingo portals.
SMP: What are your high moments of what you have been doing so far?SC: Being named the Best Online Bingo Portal of 2008 by Bullet Business was a definite highlight (as well as the drinks that followed!). Also, seeing the additions of video Hot Shots, the WhichBingo Blog and the WhichBingo Podcast come to fruition has been very satisfying.
SMP: Now that you are established, what do you see as your biggest challenges and opportunities?SC: As a company, we are branching out into Europe and our Spanish sister site QueBingo.com has already launched a very successful Spanish online bingo podcast. As I mentioned earlier, staying ahead of a very competitive group of online bingo portals is our biggest challenge but we feel that the opportunities for everyone in the online bingo space are huge as the market continues to grow.
SMP: What are the next moves for WhichBingo UK Podcast?SC: The second edition of the podcast will feature another very high profile industry figure and we will be tweaking and improving the production quality of the audio. It will be available on WhichBingo UK in mid-April.
SMP: What?s the next big step for social media and networks?SC: The development of mobile technology seems to be taking social media more and more into people?s pockets as well as onto their desktops. I can see a time very soon when social media and networks are available to everyone all the time, no matter where they are.
SMP: What impact to social networks have on culture and vice versa?
SC: The impact of sites like Twitter and Facebook seems to be having a widespread effect on the way people consume news and information. Bite size bits of info seems to be becoming the norm and that seems to be fitting in with, or perhaps contributing to, a very fast-paced way of life in the UK.
SMP: What?s going to be hot throughout 2009?SC: Twitter seems to be the buzzword and I can see that getting bigger and bigger. There are some great blogs emerging as well, and I think the WhichBingo UK podcast could be massive!
SMP: What impact is the global recession having and what do you think the best way is to manage it for businesses such as yours?SC: With bingo being a low-cost leisure activity, the online bingo industry is not feeling the brunt of the credit crunch. By keeping ticket prices low and by making sure players are not overspending, the online bingo space can remain popular and continue its growth even in tough times.
SMP: How does this fit into plans at WhichBingo UK Podcast?SC: The Podcast will keep online bingo players abreast of some great free bingo money offers, saving everyone some pennies!

SMP: What did you have for breakfast / lunch?SC: Toast with butter and a bowl of Honey Nut Bran Flakes. Oh, and a fantastic mug of milky, real coffee.
SMP: What?s the last good thing that you did for someone?SC: I cooked some pasta this morning for my girlfriend to take for lunch today. And then made everyone a brew when I got to work!
SMP: How many hours to you work a week?SC: 35
SMP: If you weren?t running WhichBingo UK Podcast what would you be doing?SC: Probably looking after all of the many other things going on day-to-day at WhichBingo UK!
SMP: When and where did you go on your last holiday?SC: We had a week in Suffolk last summer, staying near Lowestoft. Very nice indeed.
SMP: What?s the first thing you do when you get into the office of a morning?SC: Make a brew!
SMP: If you had a superpower what would it be and why?SC: The power to blow the clouds to one side and keep our office view sunny!
